Disneyland Resort is dropping the Magic Key no-show penalty, and Magic Key holders will be able to change a park reservation right up until the end of the day they were booked to visit. Both changes take effect Wednesday, October 7, 2026.
The news came in an email sent to Magic Key holders this morning from Jill Estorino, who's about seven months into her role as president of the Disneyland Resort.

What's actually changing
Two things, and both of them are about flexibility:
- The no-show penalty is going away. If you're holding a park reservation and you don't make it in, you won't be penalized for it.
- You can modify or cancel until 11:59 p.m. PT on the day of your reservation. That's the day you were booked to visit, not the day before it.
Reservations are still required
This isn't the end of the park reservation system. Disney was direct about that, and about what they want from you in exchange for the added flexibility:
That's a fair trade. The penalty existed to discourage people from sitting on reservations they weren't going to use, so dropping it only works if everyone still cancels when plans fall apart. If you're not going, take the ten seconds to free up the spot.Park reservations will still be required to help us prepare for each day, and we ask that you please modify or cancel your reservation if your plans change so we can offer that availability to other Guests.
The rest of the email
Estorino covered a few other things worth knowing about:
- A Disney Dining Card is included with all Magic Key renewals through May 26, 2027.
- New "Iconic Disneyland" Extras Unlocked offerings are coming in 2027.
- Three fan favorites return next year: the "Remember... Dreams Come True" fireworks, the original "World of Color", and the "Magic Happens" parade.

That last line is the one Magic Key holders have been waiting on. All three of those have been off the schedule, and getting the original "World of Color" and "Remember... Dreams Come True" back in the same year is a real shift in what a night at the resort looks like.
What the email didn't say
A couple of open questions. The email didn't address what happens to anyone currently sitting under a no-show penalty, and it didn't give an exact start time on October 7 for when the new cancellation window kicks in. We'll update this if Disney spells either one out.

Here's Estorino's message to Magic Key holders in full, reproduced exactly as it was sent on October 6, 2026.
To our Magic Key Holders
Hello from the Disneyland® Resort!
Seven months into my role as president, I've been so inspired by the fans who call this place home. Your love for Disneyland®, your traditions, your feedback and your passion mean so much to us, and I want to thank you for being our most loyal supporters.
As you know better than anyone else, Disneyland® is much more than a place. It's an idea that became an icon known around the world. Over 70 years later, we're still bringing Walt's vision to life every day, making the kind of magic he dreamed would inspire generations of Guests.
And I want you to know that we're listening — your insights, ideas and experiences matter. You help us improve the experience for our Guests as we imagine our future while honoring our past.
That's why I'm excited to share that starting tomorrow, October 7, 2026:
• We will remove the Magic Key no-show penalty
• You will be able to modify or cancel your Park reservation up until 11:59 p.m. PT on the day of your reserved date, providing you with more flexibility
Park reservations will still be required to help us prepare for each day, and we ask that you please modify or cancel your reservation if your plans change so we can offer that availability to other Guests.
We also continue to look for opportunities to show our appreciation for you. We are currently including a Disney Dining Card with all Magic Key renewals through May 26, 2027, and we're excited for our new "Iconic Disneyland®" Extras Unlocked offerings coming in 2027.
Next year will be special with the return of some of your favorite entertainment offerings: "Remember... Dreams Come True" and the original "World of Color" nighttime spectaculars, and the "Magic Happens" parade — I can't wait!
Thank you for making us a part of your story. We look forward to creating even more memories with you in the years ahead.
With gratitude,
Jill Estorino
President, Disneyland® Resort
