The Teenage Tiki Bar Is Throwing a Party

Okay, so Trader Sam's is officially fifteen years old, which means we're all getting ancient, but also: new mug alert. The Trader Sam's Enchanted Tiki Bar 15th Anniversary Hyena Mug drops on May 30 at the bar itself, or May 29 if you're glued to your phone hitting mobile order the second it goes live. It comes with the Barrel of Mischief cocktail, because apparently Sam thinks we're all troublemakers. He's not wrong.

If you haven't been living under a rock (or just outside the Disneyland Hotel where this place hides), you know that every visit here feels like stepping into that one friend's apartment where every single object has a completely unhinged backstory. The whole bar is built around this field notebook that Sam found back in the day, which belonged to some very unlucky explorers. Dr. Kon Chunosuke and his crew were cruising up the Nile with Skipper Felix, got chased up a tree by a rhino, and lost their research to a pack of laughing hyenas. Sam found the book, got obsessed with their botanical notes, and turned their scientific discoveries into... well, booze. And honestly? That's the kind of recycling we respect.
Every Corner Has a Secret
The place is absolutely stuffed with Easter eggs. We're talking the actual ship-in-a-bottle from the Adventurers Club at Walt Disney World, a whaling harpoon from 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, and actual 1950s photos of the Jungle Cruise boats. Look for the life ring from the Magdalena Maiden, one of the retired cruise vessels. The cast members here have that same terrifying wit as the skippers on the ride, so don't expect a quiet night. They'll roast you, but it's always with love.

And we have to mention the Indiana Jones connection. Legend says Dr. Jones himself has stopped by to celebrate discoveries, specifically that time he found the Temple of the Forbidden Eye. (Temples A through H were apparently taken. Classic Indy.)
The Mug Collection Situation
We've been hunting these ceramic treasures since 2011, and the new hyena joins a lineup that includes the Congo Queen from a few years back, the Zombie Mug, and that elusive Jack Skellington mug from 2015 that some of us still cry about missing. If you're just starting your collection, they've still got the Piranha Pool Mug, the Krakatoa Punch Mug, and the regular Zombie Mug in stock right now. But fair warning: this gets addictive fast, and suddenly you're explaining to your roommate why you need an entire kitchen cabinet dedicated to tiki cups.
The whole tiki mug thing actually traces back to Don the Beachcomber in 1933, which pioneered drinks like the Navy Grog, Three Dots and a Dash, and yes, the Zombie. Sam's carrying on that legacy, but with more puns and the occasional volcanic eruption behind the bar.
What to Eat and Drink
This isn't just a bar, it's a full-on dining situation. You can roll in for breakfast and grab the Ube-stuffed French Toast or the Kālua-style Pork Breakfast Croissant Sandwich. Later in the day, we're all about the Tempura-Battered Green Beans and the Poke Bowls.

For drinks, you can't go wrong with the Tiki Tiki Tiki Tiki Tiki Rum, which is exactly as fun to order as it is to say. If you want something non-alcoholic, the Polynesian Punch or Skipper Sipper hit different on a hot Anaheim day. And if you're feeling the anniversary vibes, that Barrel of Mischief with the new hyena mug is calling your name.

The lounge officially reopens May 25, so you've got a few days to prepare your liver and your shelf space. We'll be there, probably trying to fit another mug into our suitcase. See you at the bar.
