Who's Behind the Monsters, Inc. Halloween Decor
Pixar Place Hotel is getting its first-ever Halloween makeover this season, and it's all thanks to the creative work of digital artist Brett Snodgrass. The decorations feature Mike, Sulley, and other beloved characters from Monsters, Inc. dressed up for the fall season, complete with costumes, trick-or-treating, and plenty of hidden details for guests to discover.

Snodgrass has been with the Resort Enhancement team at Disneyland Resort for over eight years, working behind the scenes to bring stories to life throughout the property. When a colleague suggested exploring what Halloween would look like through the monsters' eyes, Snodgrass was ready to run with it.
"I started to think: Monsters, Inc. Halloween, trick-or-treat, and doors," Snodgrass explains. "You can see all of our monster characters in the artwork having fun, wearing costumes and passing the candy back and forth between our world and theirs."

Staying True to the Source
Creating artwork around characters that fans already know and love comes with real responsibility. The designs needed to feel authentic to the Monsters, Inc. universe while adding a Halloween spin that felt fresh.
Snodgrass spent time studying the original concept art from the films to make sure his work would resonate with longtime fans. "There are some brilliant concept artists who've worked on the Monsters movies over the years," he says. "So I really dug into what the other artists have done. Guests are going to see a lot of shapes and compositions that really reflect some of that early concept artwork."

The project involved close collaboration with Pixar to ensure the characters stayed true to their established designs. Once the artwork got final approval, printers, graphic technicians, and installers handled bringing the digital designs into the physical space guests see today.

A Two-Year Journey
Snodgrass has a personal tradition: after each piece he creates is installed, he walks the space and takes it all in. This Halloween decor is particularly meaningful, having spent two years in development before finally coming to life.
"It's a really incredible feeling knowing that after two years of development, people are finally going to be able to experience this," Snodgrass reflected. "This just feels really special."
But what makes the work worthwhile for him goes beyond seeing the finished piece. It's knowing that families and Disney fans will be exploring the decorations together, spotting their favorite characters, and creating memories during the season. If you're staying at Pixar Place Hotel this fall, keep your eyes open for all those details Snodgrass and his team worked so hard to perfect.
