Walt Disney World is marking its 55th anniversary today, and the resort's really got plenty to look back on.
Since the 50th anniversary celebration five years ago, Disney's added the equivalent of nearly a whole theme park's worth of new and refreshed attractions. We're talking over 70 experiences opened or updated since 2021. That's a huge amount of change in a short window, and the pace doesn't seem to be slowing down.
The last few years have brought some genuinely memorable additions across all four parks. EPCOT saw the biggest transformation, with multiple reimagined neighborhoods and new attractions like Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind and Space 220. At Magic Kingdom, coaster fans got TRON Lightcycle / Run and they're getting Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets in 2026. Disney's Hollywood Studios and Disney's Animal Kingdom have gotten their own share of upgrades and new experiences.
Beyond rides, there's been significant investment in other areas. Disney's refreshed more than 18,000 hotel rooms across 10 resort properties between 2021 and 2025. New dining spots like Roundup Rodeo BBQ and The Beak and Barrel have opened with strong storytelling at their core. Stage shows and live entertainment have gotten refreshes too, including new versions of classics and entirely new productions.
Some of the recent changes have been makeovers of existing attractions rather than brand new ones. Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, and Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run all got updated experiences while keeping their original foundations. Test Track is getting refreshed in 2025 with new vehicles and content.
There's also Cinderella Castle, which returned to a classic storybook color palette of blues, creams, grays, and golds after its refurbishment, giving the iconic castle a nostalgic but refreshed appearance.
Looking ahead, there's more in the pipeline. Carousel of Progress, Piston Peak National Park, and Villains Land are coming to Magic Kingdom. Monstropolis is heading to Disney's Hollywood Studios. Disney's Animal Kingdom will get Tropical Americas. So the growth isn't stopping at the 55th milestone.
